The Star News is the only major daily newspaper along the southern coastal region of North Carolina. Established on September 23, 1867, it is the oldest daily newspaper in continuous publication in North Carolina. Formerly owned by The New York Times, the paper is owned by Gatehouse Media, whose other newspapers in eastern North Carolina include the New Bern Sun Journal, the Jacksonville Daily News, and the Kinston Free Press. The Star News covers national, international, state and local news. Most stories may be found first at StarNewsOnline.com. Regular in-print features cover regional politics, community events, arts, sports, weather, real estate, the local film industry, business news and more. Blogs, forums, photo and video communities may be found on their website.
Supplements to the daily newspaper include Real Estate Showcase, published every three weeks; Health & Medical, published bi-monthly; and periodic special sections on a range of topics from commercial real estate to hurricane preparedness to a holiday gift guide. Most special sections have an online component as well. The annual Living Here section contains a wealth of intriguing facts, figures and community data of special interest to visitors and newcomers.
Newspaper subscribers have the option to receive all editions, weekends and holidays or just the Saturday and Sunday editions. Home delivery is available, and the newspaper may be found in news racks and stores throughout New Hanover, Pender and Brunswick counties.
